I'm speaking with Catherine Martin the morning after her triumph at the BAFTA awards, where she won both categories. But it did present a challenge--one that, we learned, she was more than happy to take on.

"I believe that a sense of fun, not taking oneself too seriously, and making do with what you have is typically Australian. One of the first things Baz told me is, 'I don't want a nostalgic New York, I don't want a sepia-toned New York, I want a New York that feels as vibrant and sexy and visceral and modern as it would have to Zelda and Fitzgerald, or any of the characters in the book.' Along with being honoured as one of Glamour Magazine’s 2013 Women of the Year for her production, set and costume designs, Catherine was inducted into the Rodeo Drive “Walk of Style” for her work on “The Great Gatsby”.
